WOMEN'S GROUP ACCUSED BY UFC HEAD OF BEING A FRONT FOR UNIONS IN LEGALISATION ROW

By Martial News Reporter

A WOMEN'S group opposed to MMA being legalised has been accused of being a front for unions by a leading member of the UFC.

The National Organization for Women held a press conference saying MMA should be kept illegal in New york, saying MMA sends the wrong signals to young people.

But Lorenza Fertitta, head of the UFC, said NOW's press conference was saet up by a Las Vegas casino union who were in dispute with him and his brother.

The two Fertitta brothers own casinos in the Nevada city and are resisting attempts to unionise the company.

Lorenza produced what he claimed to be evidence, a flyer by Unite Here which organised a bus to lobby the Capitol.

Lorenza said: "It's actually kind of sad.

"These women's organisations and women's groups stand for great things…yet they are being used as a pawn by the Culinary Union."

The NOW protesters were joined by New York legislators who claim MMA is mysogynist and has mxed signal on abuse of women. They also handed out stories about MMA fighters being close to neo-nazi groups.

Assemblywoman Ellen Jaffee, D-Nyack said: "Cage fighting has no place in a civilised society.

"It hurts young people who are brought to believe that human brutality is a spectator sport."

JAPANESE JUDO IN TURMOIL OVER ABUSE ALLEGATION RESIGNATIONS

By Martial News Reporter

JAPANESE Judo has been thrown into turmoil following the resignation of major figures embroiled in the abuse allegation scandal.

Three coaches have offered to resign amid allegations that female athletes were punched, kicked and struck in the run up to the London Olympics.

This follows the resignation of Women's Judo Coach Ryuji Sonoda last month.

Now his acting replacement Masaru Tanabe and two others have offered to resign as the allegations scandalise Japan.

The other two coaches - both females - are Hitomi Kaiyama and Midori Shintani.

All three had offered to resign after they were reprimanded for their parts in the scandal. But the head of the All-Japan Judo Federation Special Training Committee Hitoshi Saito had said he wanted them to remain.

The three are now under investigation by the AJJF.

Tanabe told Japanese newspaper The Mainichi: "I can't continue coaching with people looking at me as if I had used violence.

"Our positions go beyond the national team."

JAPANESE JUDO STAR ACCUSED OF RAPES FACES FIVE YEARS IN JAIL

By Martial News Reporter

A JAPANESE Judo star is facing five years in jail for the alleged rape of a teenager.

Masato Uchishiba, 34, was arrested last year (as reported in Martial News) following allegations he raped the teenager in a hotel room while she was drunk.

He denies the charge saying she consented to sex. The alleged attack took place in a hotel room while he was coaching the women's Judo team at the Kyushu University of Nursing and Social Welfare in Kumamoto Prefecture in 2011.

Uchishiba is a two time Olympic champion gold medalist in the -66kg category. He won the medals at the Athens games in 2004 and at Beijing four years later.

Prosecutors in Tokyo are pressing for five years in the trial.

According to the prosecution the girl became unconscious through alcohol at a karaoke venue. They say Uchishiba plied her with drink before taking her back to the room.

It is claimed that the girl woke up and became aware he was having sex with her. It is said he turned up the room's TV and kept her quiet by placing his hand over her mouth.
He was fired from his coaching job at the university following the allegations.
