BSBB HOLD STUDENT GRADING PRESENTATION EVENINGS

THE Burns School of Black Belts recently held grading presentation events.

The adult session was held at the BSBB Whitley Bay Academy while childrens' session was held at Heaton Manor High School, Heaton, Newcastle.

Sensei Rick Burns said: "We normally hold presentations on the Saturday but we did the adults on the Friday night. There was around 40 students on that night and more than 140 kids at the presentation on the Saturday.

"There was so many on the Saturday that we held the event at Heaton Manor High School, which has a massive venue; which was just as well as besides the kids there was at least two parents and other family members in attendance.

"The event was great. They have a goal every month and we inform the parents of this goal. This gives the parents a tool to keep the kids in line if they are misbehaving. If the kids don't live by the student creed they don't get to grade. We keep the schools in the loop as well the parents. This helps to give the kids discipline and is very popular with parents.

"The kids want to go up the ladder then it comes down to having the correct attitude.

"Most of those who take part in the presentation have already been assessed. Up to red belt 5th kyu they are continually assessed. After 5th kyu they have to do extra special training sessions and are continually assessed. The grading itself is three hour non-stop session in which they have to do pad work, use correct stances and forms as well as sparring.

"The standard required gets harder and harder the higher you go up the ladder. I was over the moon with the standard and both the children and adults really put so much effort into the grading.

"One of the adults was going for black belt and got a real punishment by both me and instructor Gary Sansom."

BOYS REPRESENT ENGLAND IN CHAMPIONSHIPS

TWO boys represented England in a world championships.

Kieran Nunkoo, 14, and Navin Patel, 16, from Finchley, competed in the World Karate Federation Championships.

The duo joined hundreds of competitors from more than 100 countries in Malaysia between the 13th to Sunday, 16th of October.

They train at the David Lloyd centre, Finchley, Greater London.

ALEX REID PLANS TO FILM AND STAR IN DOCUMENTARIES

ALEX Reid wants to travel the world filming documentaries in trouble zones.

Reid said he wants to follow the footsteps of Ross Kemp who has done a number of different documentaries on drug cartels, gangs and conflict across the world.

He told The Daily Star Sunday: "I have lots of offers including one where I present my own show from danger zones around the world.

"A bit like Ross Kemp does in Afghanistan."

He recently caused controversy when he kissed Jason "Bad Ass" Barrett during a weigh-in for the next fight at the UCMMA.

KUNG FU CLUB RETURNS HOME WITH MEDAL HAUL

A KUNG FU club has returned home with a haul of medals from the British Chinese Kickboxing Association.

Leicestershire Kickboxing and Kung Fu Club, Melton, entered 12 fighters into the competition and returned with 16 medals.

The contest was a continuous, points, weapons and forms competition.

Haile Penniston won the girls under 10's points section, Cameron Lysandrou took silver in the boys' under 12 category, and Owen Claasz won bronze position in the boys’ under 10's contest.

Heather Richardson won gold in the ladies 65kg plus category and Irene Gallagher took the third position spot.

A silver medal was won by Mark Smith in the mens' under 70kg while fellow team mate Joss Goddard took bronze.

Harry Weatherly achieved a silver in the mens' over 80kg contest.

Haile Penniston took a bronze in the girls’ under 50kg continuous section.

Courtney Penniston took a bronze in the continuous girls' under 12's category, while Cameron Lysandrou also took bronze in the boys' under 50kg.

Harry Weatherly was a bronze winner in the mens' over 80kg section, and Mark Smith took another brozer in the mens' under 65kg contest.

Josh Goddard took another bronze in the beginner forms, while Brent Penniston took a gold in the weapons and silver in the advanced forms.
