MARTIAL ARTIST WINS BOXING TITLE A LEEDS teenage black belt has won a Amateur Boxing Association of England Junior Champion title. Bianca Nixon, 16, is a black belt in Taekwondo and kickboxing and got into boxing through love of martial arts fighting. She started martial arts from age seven and currently trains at the Hunslet Club, Hillidge Road, Leeds. Bianca won her national title at Portsmouth, pushed by her desire to win a place in the British squad for the 2016 Olympics. She told the Yorkshire Evening Post: "I liked the figting side of martial arts and I had got as far as I could with it so I wanted to try something else." Her long term ambition is to become a PE teacher. She believes more girls should try boxing and said: "More girls should try it. Sparring with boys has stretched me and has helped me when I go to fights but it would be great to see more girls." She is trained by coach Paul Savery and her father Tony, 44, at the club. Tony is lifelong martial arts fan. He trained to become a boxing coach while his daughter trained at boxing. The Hunslett Club regularly trains more than 100 students and has produced many fighters who have gone on to represent the country at the Commonwealth Games. Other students have turned professional and won titles. The club trains youngsters from age five upwards. The club trains on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, 9-14years from 4.30pm, and seniors 14-upwards from 5.30pm For more information phone: 0113 2716489 or email: club@hunsletclub.org.uk
