BMMA LEEDS STUDENTS PICKED FOR GB TEAM
Charlotte won a gold medal at the competition and was crowned Senior Female -67kg British champion. She was fighting from the Black Widow TKD club. She had to overcome strong competition from fighters from the Spitfire and Chi Tae Kwon Do clubs to win through to the final and victory. Doherty NEIL Hall has opened up a new
Allegience MMA gym. The MMA
coach, who also referees
MMA shows, opened the gym on the to floor above Brooklands Bar, The opening
classes on the
Tuesday, April 26th were very successful with supporters and newcomers
joining in the lessons. Neil said:
"In our classes we
cater for all levels of abilities and realise each person has their own
goals,
limitations and requirements. "Not everyone
wants to be a
competitive MMA fighter, many people can enjoy the MMA training as a
means to
either fitness, self defence or just because they enjoy it. "We do cater
for those who do
want to take it to the next level and compete and we do have a very
good fight
team with amateur and professional fighters. "The team
competes regularly
and is very successful. When you come to any of our MMA classes you
will not be
asked or forced to do anything you are not happy with, there is a place
for
everyone and everyone is welcomed into the classes." There

INSTRUCTOR TOLD TO PRACTISE WHAT HE PREACHES AFTER BEING FOUND GUILTY OF ASSAULT A MARTIAL arts instructor was told by magistrates to practice the discipline he teaches after been found guilty of assault. Dwight Gloster was convicted of assaulting his ste-daughter during a row at the home they share. He was found guilty os slapping her across the face and damaging her hand during an argument in January. Magistrate Alicia Chankar told the 30-year-old: "You should instil your own discipline on yourself." He had been arrested after the victim suffered injuries to her mouth, bruises to her cheek and hand. He was bound over to keep the peace for two years on a $5000 bond. The
magistrate, sitting in San Fernando, California, USA, also told the

FIGHTER CHARGED WITH ATTEMPTED MURDER, KIDNAP AND RAPERobert J McCann, 27, of Brushton, New York State, pleaded not guilty to the 11 charges. McCann was found hiding in a crawl space at a home near to the Mohawk native American Reservation after a two day man hunt. He was charged with two counts of attempted murder, three counts of first degree rape, and one count each of kidnapping, first-degree assault, first degree criminal use of a firearm, first degree attempted assault, aggravated contempt for allegedly ignoring a stay-away order of protection and first degree stalking. In
a statement to police after he was caught, McCann allegedly said that
his use of steroids as a MMA fighter made him "snap". The steroids made him "get angry at little things that people who are not steroids would not get mad about. "I
felt I needed a competitive edge for my mixed martial arts. I
thought it wasn't going to change me, but it did." He believed she was seeing other men and he wanted to confront her. He had taken a BB gun with him and tucked it into his pants pocket. He said that he knew the gun would scare her into telling the truth. But when she saw the gun "she freaked out" and tried to flee his car. He then said he grabbed her wrist and used his left arm to circle around her neck "to take control, and I lost it. I snapped and lost even more." He continued that the angle of his arm and her top's zipper were pressing into her throat "tight enough to possibly cut off the blood flow to her arteries. "I don't know if I was ever in that state of mind in my life. It was as if something was controlling me. I didn't know what I was doing. I loved her, but I had this aggression going on at the same time." McCann is alleged to have taken the woman back to her own vehicle the next day before turning fugitive. He pleaded not guilty to all charges and will face full trial next year. *********************
