ASHIHARA Karate Club is celebrating after gaining a gold medal at a major open competition. The Edinburgh based club saw member Krzysztof Atemborski take the gold in the light under 70kg category at the 2012 Kyokushin Karate Scottish Open. The event was held at the Jack Kane Sports Centre, Edinburgh. Krzysztof fought his way through three rounds aganist both Scottish and English fighters before taking the medal in the final. He told
local media: "It was a great moment to win the title. "The standard of fighters was really high and I faced some good competition. "I hadn't trained in the last few weeks as I've been suffering from an infection but I'd been working really hard prior to that and I know my fitness levels are really good." Shaun McNeish and Michael Gray put up good performances but failed to make the medals.The competition is open to all Karate systems. Shihan Metin Tuncay said: "I am very proud of all my fighters. "For Krzysztof to take first is really impressive and a big success. We were fighting with some rules that were not included in our style." The club trains at

Judo has presented its Student of the Year Award to Robert Stuart. Robert,
15, was presented with his award by 4th Dan Maureen Carnaby
on Sunday,
January
11th. The
ceremony was at the Burnside Community College, Wallsend, North
Tyneside. Sensei
Chris Dawson, 7th Dan, said: "Robert joined Wallsend's Bushido
Judo
Kwai on Friday 15th April 2005, his attendance since joining has been
exemplary. "Robert
has worked his way through the grading system and in July this year was
awarded
the highest junior grade possible, a green belt with three black
bars. "During
this time he has shown courtesy to his instructors and other club
members.
"Our
junior members compete for a monthly trophy and Robert has won this
more times
than anyone else this year."
Chris
said: "Wallsend's Bushido Judo Kwai held its junior grading at Burnside
Community College, Wallsend on Sunday 11th December. "At
the grading we were fortunate to have two visiting referee's, Juneille
Smith
6th Dan and John Hall 4th Dan, both from Ronan Judo Club, Morpeth."
Bushido
members to win promotion were Adam Bamford 6th Kyu Ichi, Ellie Hutton
6th Kyu
Ni, Leon Milner, Joe Ross, Chloe Lancaster, Jack Barnett and Millie
Richardson
all were promoted to 5th Kyu. Jack Ross 5th Kyu San, Cllum

his dad tells us he should be back training in about six to eight
weeks, we

MARTIAL ARTS GAMES THE National Indoor Athletic Centre at
Cyncoed was the
setting for the 2011 World Martial Arts Games. Approximately 1,000 competitors from
16 countries as far
afield as New Zealand, the USA, Mexico and Canada attended the event. ****************** TKD

TAEKWONDO club is celebrating after its pupils passed their black belts. The
nine students of the Leslie Wright's Taekwondo Centre took their
gradings at

KARATE DUO CELEBRATE GRADES TWO
members of the Ni-Kurai Karate Club are celebrating after achieving new
Dan
grades. Chief
instructor of the club Paul Treweek was awarded his 6th dan for his
services to
martial arts and for the length of time he has been training...35-years. And
it was a double celebration after student Lee Coupe, 16, got his first
Dan
black belt after a two and half and hour grading. He also had to submit
a
1000-word thesis on the history of Karate. The club trains at the
Eckington School, Eckington, Derbyshire. For
