The company behind Martial News - DFM Self-protection Ltd - is a first aid and health and safety company which supplies courses to businesses and organisations. Although DFM Self-protection has offered first aid courses at a central venue in the past to martial arts groups, it is now able to offer medics for fight shows and competitions. The show, called The Beginning, is being held The Stormont Main, Wrekenton, Gateshead, on Saturday, August 27th. Organiser James Casey said: "We have Nathan Court fighting Leeroy Barnes. Its a debut pro fight for Nathan and he is looking to take Leroy's scalp as it would be a great victory for him. "But Leeroy is a tough fighter and this bout should be an exciting match that will have fans on the edge of their seats. "We also hae a semi-pro welterweight title fight between Ash Griffith against Jonny McGee. "This is a real grudge match as they really don't like each other. We are expecting real fireworks when these two face each other in the cage which will be great for the fight fans." Guest of honour is Andre Winner. STAND YOUR GROUND LOOKING FOR FIGHTERS ![]() STAND Your Ground is looking for a heavyweight boxer and MMA fighters for its new show. The show is being held at the Marriott Hotel, Gosforth, Newcastle on Saturday, August 6th. It is an MMA and white collar boxing show. Show Organiser Richard Ince said: "This is going to be a great show with some great fights already lined up. "Due to some fighters becoming injured in training we have an opportunity for other fighters to join the card. "We are looking for a heavyweight boxer and also for an amateur 66kg fighter to take a bout with a young talented fighter. "We are also looking for semi-pros and pros to match up as well." There will be an after-party show at Tiger Tiger, Newcastle. The fight

JU-JITSU CLUB CELEBRATES FIRST BLACK BELT A JU-JITSU club is celebrating its first black belt in its ranks. Peterborough Free Style Jujitsu saw Paul Middleton became the first person from the club to gain a Dan grade. The club, based in
Yaxley Public Hall, Yaxley, also saw two other members - Adam
Clark and Matthew Ives - gain their brown belts. For

Cockfield, 4th Dan won gold in the men's black belt kumite and fellow

Wado Ryu Karate Club ran in
brightly coloured "morph" suits in aid of charity. Sensei Peter Rixon, 4th
Dan, said:
"We have been taking part in this event since we our club formed some
years ago. "It is a good event and
really
enjoyable because there is such a great atmosphere. "However this year, for
the
first time, we decided to run the race in aid of a charity after being
prompted
by Rotary Club. "They do such a
fantastic job
and the event is so well organised we felt we ought to take them up on
their
suggestion." For

FIGHTER SHOWS HIS METTLEVETERAN fighter Eugene Valerio showed that experience counts when he defeated a much younger opponent. Valerio, 51, won by unanimous points decision against Carl Reid, of Luton, at the Dragon Fighting Championships' Muay Thai and MMA cage fight night at the Liquid Nightclub, Wrexham, Wales. Valerio was pressurised by Reid in the early part of the match but the veteran used his experience to his advantage. By the end of the fight Valerio was the dominant fighter took the bout.***********************

gold at the 2011 IBSA World Games on Tuesday 5th April in The
29-year-old, who won the -60kg

with an Iranian judoka who he overcame to book a semi-final spot. Ben fought

attempt Ben pinned
his opponent to narrowly beat the clock and score an ippon in an
impressive
come-from-behind victory. Ben defeated "It feels
really good, I made
hard work of it, but I'm still really pleased with the result," he
said. "I went into
the competition
expecting a medal so I did put that pressure on myself but I knew I was
capable. "There was a
really good
standard of competition, the same as the World Championships last year
and I
fought hard to get the gold." |
