By Martial News Reporter A KARATE club has returned with 24 medals from the Northern Open Classic International Karate Championship. The Dokan Gudo Nishijima Shotokan Karate Club junior squad of 20 from East Boldon traveled down to Cheshire to take part in the contest. Based in East Boldon First School, South Tyneside, the club is run by Sensei Kevan Mitchinson, 3rd Dan. He said: "This really is a huge achievement for this club. "I put it all down to their hard work and dedication. They train up to
seven hours a week, and it really shows. "I actually had a tournament I was meant to compete in on the same day
in The club first started in the Autumn last year and since then has gone from strength-to-strength and has won medals in national competitions. The Dokan Gudo Nishijima Shotokan Karate Club trains at the school in North Lane every Tuesday. The club has other classes in the area on other nights of the week. Kevan added: "They have achieved such excellent results in such
a

![]() (Caption): North fighters Craig Jose and Jamie Bates By Sean O'Connor A FIGHT spectacular involving kickboxing, Muay Thai and white collar boxing is coming to the Journal Tyne Theatre. The fight night is being promoted by Masac Master and is being held on Friday, June 25th, with doors opening from 6pm. Featuring some of the top fighters in their fields, the event features K-1, Kickboxing, Muay Thai, MMA and White Collar Boxing, at the theatre in Westgate Road, Newcastle. Organiser Geoffrey Bates said: "The North East has some of the best fighters in the world and this event is featuring some of that great home grown talent. "We have Craig Jose, of The Faktory, fighting against a top fighter from Greece, and Jamie Bates - who is the under-21 World Champion - is also fighting as is Jamie Moore, from the East Gym, South Shields, Kevin Smiles and James Watling amongst other great talent. "We are a charity organisation that gives away 50pc of the profit away to good causes. The rest of the money goes to supporting the Masac gym in Annfield Plain, County Durham, which also is open to community groups and events." The Masac Gym is open everyday from 5pm to 10pm. Style taught include Ju-Jitsu, Karate and Kick-boxing to adults and children from the age of four upwards. It is based at the Clavering Youth Centre, Clavering Place, Annfield Plain, County Durham.
