By Martial News Reporter
A MARTIAL arts instructor has instigated a tough anti-drug policy after hearing rumours students could be becoming involved in the scene.
The International Martial Arts Academy, Topside, introduced the zero-tolerance policy in conjuction with parents after rumours started circulating that some students were distributing drugs.
Co-owner David Rogers spoke to 40 parents of some of the 140 students the Academy teaches.
He said: "It is involving younger and younger kids. This is the worst we’ve heard."
At the meeting parents with law enforcement backgrounds explained to the gatherinmg the best way to talk to their kids about drugs and what to look out for.
David added: "It was very nice to open up lines of communication not just among us but the community"It turned into a really nice discussion about what we can do as parents and what we can do as teachers."
One parent said that hearing the message from a martial arts instructor could have more impact because they were role models.
Under the new rules any student found with drugs or doing drug
activities will be banned until they produce a clean drug test results
from a doctor.
If there are rumours a student is taking or dealing in drugs then a three step strategy is used. First their parents are phoned, with there are more rumours afterwards then a meeting with the parents and student is held, if there are still rumours it is continuing the pupil is asked to leave until they can produce a clean drugs test
