AN MMA instructor floored an intruder who was trying to get into his home containing his wife and children.

Eric Zamora sprang into action after hearing a commotion outside his home in Culpeper, Virginia, United States.

While watching TV he heard footsteps at the back of his house., with his wife asleep in the TV room and his young children asleep upstairs, Eric went to investigate.

He told his local newspaper: "At first I just thought it was a raccoon or possum because we have trouble with them out here.

"But then I stood up and saw some guy looking in at me through the glass door."

The intruder then began shouting and swearing at him, demanding that he was let in the house. Zamora quickly rang a hired security company, awaking his wife and giving her the phone.

Zamora knew he had to keep the man out of the house. When the assailant failed to get into the back door he ran to the front and demanded to be let in. Zamora then stepped outside and confronted the man.

"Most people probably say you shouldn’t go outside, but my thing was that if nobody stops him he could easily come back," said Zamora.

He demanded that the intruder leave his property and ws then threatened, he said.

"If you don’t move and let me in the house I’m going to knock you the F*** out," Zamora said.

He told how the man steeped agressively towards him and he punched the intruder in the face, putting him on the group.

When the man got back to his feet Zamora shot in with a takedown and then got into the full mount and controlled the intruder until the security team arrived.

The intruder was then handed over to the Sheriff's department who took him into custody.

Zamora added: "There was no reaction, it was just instinctive. My thought was, ‘you’re not getting through me because I have females in the house.’ If I had to die defending my family then so be it."
