PUPILS GATHER TO RAISE CASH FOR HELP FOR HEROES

SCHOOL pupils gathered together from across Scotland to help raise cash for armed force's charity Help For Heroes.
The students took part in the Kobe Osaka Scotland's inter-school inter-regions championship, held in Fife, Scotland, on June 6th.
The event was held in memory of Lance Sgt David Walker of the 1st Battalion Scots Guards who was killed in Afghanistan fighting against the Taliban earlier this year. Lance Sgt Walker was a friend of one of the Kobe Osaka instructors. He left behind a wife and five children...CLICK ABOVE

A NEW Karate class for beginners and experienced martal artists is opening in Gosforth, Newcastle.
The Euchi Ryu Karate club adult classes are being held at the Pilates Studio, Back Ivy Road, Gosforth on Saturdays from 2.30pm, starting August 7th.
The system is named after its founder Kanbun Euchi who studied Kung Fu in China at the turn of the 20th Century. He taught martial arts in Okinawa in the years that followed.
Sensei Tony Brush said: "The training is very intensive. Although its only an hour a week, you put everything into that hour. 
"Euchi Ryu emphasises a lot of sparring in training, with control and good technique, and I've found that this brings on your reactions and speed very quickly...CLICK ABOVE

A KICKBOXER has won his first WAKO English title after a gruelling training regime.
John Lee, who fights out of the Grimsby Martial Arts Academy, Grimsby, Lincolnshire, won a unanimous points victory over Phil Ayres, of Doncaster, South Yorkshire.
The five minute round fight for the the middleweight title took place in Basildon, Essex.

KARATE CLUB WINS MEDAL HAUL

A KARATE  club has returned with 24 medals from the Northern Open Classic International Karate Championship.
The Dokan Gudo Nishijima Shotokan Karate Club junior squad of 20 from East Boldon traveled down to Cheshire to take part in the contest.
Based in East Boldon First School, South Tyneside, the club is run by Sensei Kevan Mitchinson, 3rd Dan.
He said: "This really is a huge achievement for this club.

YOUNGSTER JOINS DAD IN WORLD KICKBOXING CHAMPIONSHIP

A YOUNGSTER has been chosen for the Scottish squad which is competiting in the World Kickboxing Association championships.
Deklyn Bain, 11, of Drumchapel, Glasgow, will be joining his kickboxing father William at the contest that is being held in Edinburgh in October.

TRIBUTES have been paid to Sensei John Lambert who died peacefully after a long fight against illness.
The 5th Dan was the head of the Scottish Goju Ryu Karate Association and was highly respected throughout the martial arts community.
He passed away aged 54 at his home in Glenrothes on Monday, June 28th after a courageous fight against cancer. 
He leaves behind his wife Sandra, son Iain and daughter Pauline and son-in-law Ian.
Kenny Morrison, of the SGKA , said in a tribute on the association website: "Sensei John Lamber was my instructor for the last 26-years throughout my Goju training. He was an inspiration to me not only in karate but also in life...CLICK ABOVE

A TAIJI seminar has been held in the regfion to teach students about muscle power.
The course was run by Sifu Joe Harte at the East Durham College, Houghall Campus Conference Hall, Durham on Saturday, June 19th between 10am to 5pm.
Sifu Joe Harte took the participants through the five muscle phases, which two are so subtle they appear hidden.
Joe said: "Master Huang Sheng Shyan our founder said there are no secrets in Taiji just things too small for people to see.

CYBORG DESTROYS FINNEY'S STRIKEFORCE DREAM

CRIS Cyborg Santos has again shown she is a force to be reckoned with after defeating Jan Finney at Strikeforce.
She won in the second round with a TKO in a fight that was one-sided and scrappy affair.
Cyborg, who fights of the Chute Boxe Academy, Brazil, and is considered to be the best MMA female fighter in the world at the moment, dominated the match and added Finney's scalp to her 9-1 fight record.

However, gutsy Finney showed a lot of heart against the merciless Cyborg. She was determined and landed a number of good strikes on the Cyborg, poking holes in her defence...CLICK ABOVE

CAGE FIGHTER DIES AFTER MATCH

A CAGE fighter has died from a brain bleed after taking part in his first professional MMA bout.
Michael Kirkham, 30, collapsed during the fight and was taken to a nearby hospital but never regain consciousness.
Known as Tree because of his 6ft 9" build, Michael was fighting at Dash Entertainment and King MMA co-promoted fight night at the USC Aiken Convocation Center.
The Aiken county coroner ruled his death accidental and the South Carolina Athletic Commission, which regulates MMA in the state, are investigating...CLICK ABOVE

MMA legend Frank Shamrock has retired from the cage after a long career at the top of his game.
Frank, whose real name is rank Alisio Juarez III, made the announcement at Strikeforce on Saturday, June 26th at the HP Pavilion, San Jose, California, US.
He said on his blog: "Hey everyone, thanks for being there for all these years.  I retired from MMA and it was the hardest thing I ever had to do.

THE first Sunderland Karate Championships so clubs from across the region descend on the city to compete.
The contest was held at City Space Centre, Sunderland University, Chester Road, Sunderland, on Sunday, June 20th.

BRITISH number one tennis player Andy Murray has claimed that his sport is as tough as cage fighting.
Currently placed at number 4 in the world, Murray said the stresses of today's tennis circuit meant that he had to spend part of his training regime running and in the gym.

TAEKWONDO TEAM CLAIM THE MEDALS

RAMSGATE Olympic Taekwondo team have a fist full of medals.
Six of the team attended the UTF Olympic Taekwondo One-to-One competition in London. They retuned with an impressive four golds and three silvers medals.
Katarzyna Grela won gold in the 63kg and below junior section and a silver in the 59kg and below, while her brother Jakub gained gold in the 58kg plus cadet category.

SPORT COMBAT SOMBO AND PANKRATION

THE British Sombo Federation has held a double competition in Pankration and Sport Combat Sombo.
The event was held at Swale Martial Arts Club, Sittingbourne, Kent, and feature two separate competitions, one run by the British Combat Sombo Association and the other by the newly formed PankrationUK.

BUSHIDO Academy students passed their grading examinations under the watchful eye of their senior instructors
The grading was
Students from Bushido Judo Kwai, Battle Hill Judo Club and Seghill Judo club participated in the Bushido Academy of Judo Grading, under the guidance of Chris Dawson 6th Dan.

A JU-ITSU club may been forced to breakup after being driven out of its base by a massive rent increase.
The club in Horncastle, Lincolnshire, has seen its rent for a scout hut rise from £15 a session to £45. The local gymnastics club - who use the ju-jitsu club's mats - is leaving with the martial artists.

A NORTH student is heading to Brazil to represent his university in a major Jui-jitsu competition.
Shanoor Choudhury, 30, from Fenham, Newcastle, is flying to Rio de Janeiro in July in the Brazilian Jiu-jitsu Championships.
He said: "I can’t wait to get out there, it’s completely self funded and I’m getting trained up for it so it should be a fantastic experience.
