First off - the Marfest date has been announced and Martial News, as always, will be giving the event and its organiser Peter Seth all the support it can. And we hope you - the martial artists of the region - will always get behind this fund raiser for Cancer Research UK. With one in three of us beingaffected by this disease in our life times its important to so many people than research is carried into this killer disease. It the tenth Marfest this year and it would be great if this year's could raise more than any other in the past - but we need people there and offering their time for demos to make it a success. See yer there! **************************************************************** Congratulations to Esme Harte, a brown and white belt at Newton Aycliffe Ju-jitsu Club, Newton Aycliffe, County Durham, who did a marathon 100 throws session as part of fundraising efforts at Sedgefield Community College. Its great to see youngsters working for the greater good and using martial arts in a positive way. You are a credit not only to your school and Ju-jitsu class but also the wider martial arts community. **************************************************************** Also - please support our very own MMA reporter Dave Brown in his sponsored challenge to raise £50,000 for cancer research. Dave will be attempting to complete the three peak challenge in 48 hours, either the London or Kielda marathons and crossing the English Channel in a kayak. If you want to sponsor Dave go to story four for contact details... ********************************************************* MARTIAL News was set up to help martial arts clubs get the publicity they deserve and also to promote the charities our community supports. This is why we are pushing the Cage Fight Night at RAF Boulmer, Alnwick. The Mixed Martial Arts and Kickboxing event is being held to raise cash for Help For Heroes, the charity that helps injured soldiers and bereaved families. As you are most likely aware, hundreds of British soldiers have died in Iraq and Afghanistan, but thousands more have been injured and need our support. Some of the top fighting clubs are putting their best fighters forward for the challenge. The Cage Fight Night is being run alongside the RAF and takes place in aircaft hanger giving the night an appropriate military feel. The Cage Fight Night - Battle At Boulmer is being held on Friday, March 12th from 7pm. Tickets cost £20 standard, £300 for VIP a table of ten.
