RAUL Moat took the life of young Karate Instructor Chris Brown in the cruellest of ways. In the days that followed Moat shooting himself there has been a display of hero-worship on Facebook and with floral tributes. Make no mistake - Moat's family have a right to mourn - but the real victims in all this tragedy is Chris Brown and PC David Rathband. Chris had moved from Slough to the North East to further his dreams of being a professional martial arts instructor. He died trying to protect Samantha Stobbart after she was shot by her ex-partner Moat through a window. From the messages left by his family and friends on social sites its clear to see he was a much loved man with a wide circle of friends who thought highly of him. In the words of his mum Sally, he was a "live wiire" who was full of energy and good cheer. It's been said that every person's passing lessens us all...Chris's passing leaves us very poor indeed. And PC David Rathband - he has shown us remarkable courage by stating that he forgives Moat for what he has done to him, leaving him blind and trying to kill him. He has shown remarkable courage and generosity of spirit where lesser mortals would feel bitterness and despair. He is an exemplary policeman of the highest calibre. The two true heroes of the tragedy.

WELL done Ceri Sutherland and her husband Riaan Swanepoel for raising
£4000 for the John Wesley Kosi Bay School in South Africa. The school is in one of the poorest areas of South Africa and the local population - the Tonga - have been hit hard by the Aids epidemic that has swept Sub-Saharan Africa. The school has built up such a good reputation for its teaching it has 600 odd children on its books. But it desperately needs new classrooms and cEi and Riaan's auction at Rock, Northumberland, is a step towards that dream. The couple now plan to raise more funds in the future... **************************************************************** Martial News might look a bit different on some of the news pages.
