FIGHT SHOWS TO GET BIG HIT WITH NEW LIVE STREAMING TV

By Luke Robbins

A NEW live TV streaming company dedicated to covering combat sports is being launched.

CombatSportsLiveTV will stream action from Mixed Martial Arts, K-1, Muay Thai and Kickboxing, as well as boxing and grappling contests live onto the internet.

It will also film big traditional martial arts championships and feature interviews and seminars as part of its service.

There are two channels Martial News' FightSportsLiveTV and CombatSportsLiveTV offering double the coverage.

The service will begin on September 17th with the airing of two of the UK’s biggest MMA events 10th Legion, on CombatSports and MMA Total Combat on FightSports.

Alan Orr, head of CombatSportsLiveTV, said: "This is an exciting new service for the combat sports world that will help smaller, but well run shows grow their brands. It will also allow the big fight events the opportunity to reach new supporters, not only in the UK but world-wide.

"The service is for any combat sport and includes kickboxing, MMA, submission grappling and K-1, as well as boxing among others."

The new company is a joint venture between the 10th Legion Championship Fighting group, one of the biggest fight shows in the UK, Martial News, the fastest growing internet newspaper dedicated to combat arts and the Dapper Grappler TV company which specialises in fight filming.

Martial News editor Phil Doherty said: "Live streaming TV will be featuring some great fight shows and some real talent. These two new channels will deliver unrivaled coverage that fight fans will not want to miss.

"As it will be streaming live on www.combatsportslivetv
.com and .co.uk, as well as live on www.martialnews.co.uk
fightsportlivetv.html we can promo and show two different MMA fight events at the same time, or a alternatively a Kickboxing night and a grappling contest.

"The opening night will be on September 17th when we will be presenting two of the biggest fight shows on the calendar - MMA Total Combat and Alan's 10th Legion show.

"Other shows we have on the calendar include Michael Surtees' Supremacy K-1 Challenge, Knuckle Force's show at the beginning of October, Stand Your Ground, Pride & Glory, and Cage Fight Night's Battle Ground at the prestigious The Alnwick Gardens and more...

"As it develops we will also be running exclusive interviews with top fighters from many, as well as feature programmes on different combat sport disciplines.

"Combat Sport Live TV and Martial News TV are also a great opportunity for advertising for fight gear suppliers, governing bodies and martial arts insurance organisations, as well as mainstream companies such as credit card suppliers, washing up powder and car adverts.

"Adverts are 'through ads' and appear on multiple websites as well as in intervals in the live action."

The live streaming will be shown on two channels - CombatSportsLiveTV and also on the Martial News website. It will be a pay-per-view and subscription led service.

Alan added: "Live streaming TV is the growing market as it can be viewed on many different multimedia platforms including laptops, internet-enabled television and mobiles. This will help to fulfil the growing trend for people to watch their favourite combat sports online and fit in with younger consumer market."

VITOR BELFORT KNOCKED OUT BY SILVA'S FRONT KICK

By Martial News Reporter

VITOR Belfort's much anticipated UFC 126 fight against Anderson Silva was ended with a well-timed front kick to the head.

Silva, defending his middleweight title, stopped the bout with a single kick in the first round, catching his fellow Brazilian opponent square on the jaw.

The fight started with each side reluctant to make the first move before warming up into what looked like would turn into a battle-royale at the MandalayBayEvents Center, Las Vegas, Nevada, US.

But in the 3.25 minute of the round Silva struck with the front kick that was so quick that Vitor - who comes from a Karate background - didn't see it coming.

Showing what true champion and martial artist he is, Silva curtailed his victory celebrations to rush back to Belfort's side to make sure his opponent was okay from his devastating footwork.

After the fight he said: "Thanks to my coach for teaching me that kick.

"Everybody should respect Vitor. Before I even started fighting, he was a champion, so he deserves your respect."

Silva - who learned the kick from Aikido expert and movie star
Steven Seagal - faked the front kick to Vitor's body before arching it up into his head.

After the fight Belfort

He said: "It held himself responsible for failing to block the kick from Silva, who he declared to be a great fighter. 's no excuse. He caught me with a kick.

"I just got caught up. He faked the body, and he kicked to the head. Anderson is a great fighter."

UFC President Dana White commented: "I've only seen that in a video game."

Silva - the longest reigning champion in UFC history - will now face George St-Pierre in a much anticipated clash.

In the other main bouts, former champs Forrest Griffin defeated Rich Franklin with an unanimous decision, while Jon "Bones" Jones scored a victory over Ryan Bader  with a second round submission, Jake Ellenburger won against Carlos Eduardo Rocha, and Miguel Torres beat Antonio Banuelos.

CHUCK LIDDELL RETIRES TO WORK FOR UFC

By Martial News Reporter

MMA legend Chuck Liddell has announced he is retiring from the UFC's Octagon but taking an executive post with the company.

The feared light-heavyweight fighter made his announcement in the Las Vegas home of the UFC.

He told the audience at the press conference that Dan White had asked him to become the organisation's executive vice-president for business development.

When asked if he ever expected to see such a title in front of his name, being more used to battling than business, Liddell, 41, said: "Definitely not, but if I'm going to be a vice-president of something, have a real job, this is the one I want."

Chuck not only became one of the most feared opponents in the UFC lightweight division, he also became a great hit with fight fans and fighters alike and respected through the wide-community.

The news of his retirement, however, was no great shock as he has been talking of hanging up his MMA mitts since 2009.

That followed a string of losses culminating in a TKO to Mauricio Shogun Rua in Montreal's UFC 97.

UFC President Dana White - who used to be his manager and is a great friend of Liddell - said after his defeat at the hands of Shogun that it was time for him to consider giving the fight game up before he was seriously injured.

Liddell, who has a 21-8 UFC record, just couldn't bring himself to leave the sport he loves so much and threw himself into training before returning to the Octagon in UFC 115 held in  Vancouver, Canada, in June last year.

Facing Rich Franklin, the dream comeback was not to be. Defeated by Franklin, that saw three straight losses and his fifth defeat in six bouts.

Dana said: "Listen, I can't even imagine what it's like to walk out into an arena with 20,000 people screaming your name and all the things that go along with it and the money and the fun and the fame.

"The reality is he was the king, man. And it's tough to walk away from that."

Liddell said: "I would have liked to gone out on a win streak but I don't think I would have left if I was on a win streak.

"If I got a win, then I would just want to fight again."

Although he is a tough fighter, Liddell is no novice when it comes to business having a degree in accounting with top honours.

His recent purses have been $500,000 (£320,000).

Asked if now he was an executive whether he'd be giving up his trademark mohican hairstyle, he said: "I've been growing it out on and off lately. But I still like it. I don't know. I don't have to."

MMA FIGHT TURNS INTO A BRAWL

By Darren Currah

AN MMA fight event turned into chaos when supporters clashed in a brawl that saw hundreds flee the venue.

The fight event, organised by MMA Fight Club, was being held at Rumworth Hall, Daubhill, Bolton, Lancashire, in the afternoon when Salford's Joel Meakin lost his bout against Bolton's Scott Kimberlin.

Rioting fans smashed windows, threw beer glasses and even bricks at rival supporters in a brawl that shocked witnesses.

A dozen police cars and vans were sent to the venue as well as a number of ambulances. However, no-one was seriously injured in the punch-up.

Now promoter Marks Stevens has said that it will be the last time he puts on a show.

He told his local newspaper: "When I announced the fighters there were boos from the crowd which is very disrespectful. I tried to calm down the tension and let the fight carry on.

"Joel gave a good account of himself, but when he lost the glasses came flying from the 30-strong Salford crowd before we could announce the winner.

"Everyone started rushing for cover, and some of the Bolton lads started to retaliate.

"Then the windows went through and people were calling the police.

"I have been training some of the lads for three months and helping them out, but it was unfortunately ruined by hooligans.

"I am finished with this now. I am not going to try and get another event off the ground."

He said that money raised from the fight event would go to pay for the damaged caused by the brawling supporters. His club members also rallied around and help to clean up the scene.

According to reports, the licensee has said he will not allow anymore MMA fights to take place at his venue.

Some eye-witnesses said they believed that some supporters had come for a fight and that the tension in the venue had been building up throughout the day.

One man was arrested at the scene.

BBC COMES UNDER ATTACK FOR NOT REPORTING ON UFC 120

THE BBC has come under a battering from MMA fans after it failed to cover the UFC 120 in London.

UFC 120 was held at the O2 arena on Saturday, October 16th and featured eight British fighters in its line-up, four on the main card.

Headlining was Michael "The Count" Bisping and Dan Hardy.

The apparent snub to the fastest growing sport in the world saw fans condemn the BBC on forums and chat rooms.

UFC 120 saw 17,000 fans hit the Arena to see the MMA action from the top division show. It was watched by millions people worldwide.

When quizzed why the BBC had not covered the event either on television or online, a BBC spokesman said: "...as a public service broadcaster ir is not in our remit to provide equal coverage of all events, but rather reflect the national public interest.

"We would like to cover many more sports such as Mixed Martial Arts, but simply don't have the resources available to do so.

"We are constantly reviewing how best to spread our coverage, but we must always hold our commitment to use the majority of our limited resources on sports which show the highest level of national interest."

The statement drew further criticism, however, when it was pointed out that BAMMA 4 was watched by one million viewers on Bravo TV.

Despite the BBC's stance on niche sports its still finds the budget to cover lawn bowls, snooker American Football and even darts, fans pointed out.

I'M afraid that Sean is a little tied up so I've kindly taken the job of providing the fight fantasies for this edition...

Poor Sean is gaffer taped to his chair by his legs, arms and chest after he fell asleep...it really looked quite painful when he tried to stand and went head first into the carpet...and quite frankly its a bit of a nuisance having to step over him to get in and out of the room...

Anyhow - back to the onerous task in hand - I've selected some real corkers this time and I hope you enjoy my selection of the hottest babes that that bask in our collective adoration when they grace the cages of the top fights from across the world.

Apparently someone fiddled with his sat nav and changed the postcode he'd set it to for his next reporting job...
